Kiely’s by Blue Haven: The Finest Chipper in Cork City

Cork city’s oldest chipper, Kiely’s of Maylor Street, was reimagined and brought to life once more under the Blue Haven banner in early 2022. Bringing together the much-loved traditions of a household name around the banks of the Lee, Kiely’s re-opened its doors just off Patrick’s Street with a new look and feel, accompanied by a sumptuous new menu.

Known for its focus on culinary excellence, the well-known traits of the Blue Haven Collection shine through in every element of the ‘new’ Kiely’s experience. Great food alongside a customer-centric dining experience, with orders available for collection or delivery via Deliveroo and Just Eat.

Using only the very best local ingredients that are delivered to the premises daily, Kiely’s cook up a wonderful mix of Leeside favourites, served with a modern, international take. The restaurant’s freshly cut homemade chips are considered some of the best that Cork has to offer and are prepared on site by Chef Hugo Alves Matos and his team daily, under the creative guidance of Chef Meeran Manzoor of the Blue Haven Collection fame. Inspired by Cork’s thriving foodie scene, the Kiely’s team take the humble homemade chip and have fused it together with some gorgeous combinations of flavours. To accompany their chips, hungry souls choose from garlic aioli, an exquisite lemon grass aioli, or truffle mayonnaise with parmesan for an extra special kick.

Korean-style chicken tenders or Kiely’s stunning Ummera smoked chicken nuggets are popular with regular customers, both served with a decent portion of homemade chips. Kiely’s seafood options will also tempt any fish eater. Whether it’s the Catch of the Day or Tempura Haddock & chips that’s of interest, Union Hall fish cakes or cod pakora, or a gooey
Prawn cocktail treat on a brioche bap, served with chips, the entire fish menu is sourced from the local region.

One of the stars of the show is Kiely’s Chip Butty, complete with freshly cut Cuthbert’s white sliced pan, a Ballycotton seafood croquette, tartare sauce, crunchy slaw, and homemade chips. Finally, Kiely’s 6oz cheese burger and chips or battered jumbo sausage and chips are stables to be enjoyed any day or time of the week.

Vegetarians and flexitarians are well served as well, with tasty Macroom buffalo halloumi bites and Macroom Feta & pea fritters bringing a welcome burst of veggie creativity, sitting alongside new flavours, sides, dips, and local specialities to give some older tastes a fresh lease of life.

Mini fish and chips or Chicken nuggets and chips are available for younger members of the family, while those with a sweet tooth will be soothed by an impressive array of desserts including deep fried cookies, a crispy Mars bar, some churros with Nutella, or a crispy fruit pie with homemade custard.

It was Mattie Kiely that first set up and established his chipper just off Cork’s main thoroughfare, capturing hearts (and stomachs!) across the city. That legacy is now combined with the expertise and Blue Haven Collection touch to create the rather unique proposition that is Kiely’s of Cork
